Lisa Green gets a boost from the Grimm family

Lisa Green's campaign to replace Ed Jagels as the next Kern County District Attorney is beginning to look like a juggernaut. The longtime deputy D.A. has been relentlessly campaigning for a full year now, since she made it clear before a downtown Rotary Club audience that she was in it to stay. Not only does she have the blessings of Jagels, but she's been busy lining up well-heeled followers. Over the weekend, I am told her campaign raised some $20,000 when carrot family doyenne Barbara Grimm-Marshall (owner, Grimmway Farms, the world's largest carrot producer) and sister-in-law Kari Grimm hosted a fund-raiser for Green at the Metro Galleries in downtown Bakersfield. Of course, it never hurts that Green's husband, Jeff Green, is chief legal counsel for the carrot company. Green's lone opponent at this point is former prosecutor Bob Barton, who served as a prosecutor from 1988 to 2005.

  1. Unless things have changed recently, I don't think Jagels has given his blessing to Green. He's told me he's not decided whether he'll run or not. And Lisa has confirmed to me that he has not told her privately that he won't run.

He's mad that supervisors didn't give him that raise a couple months back and has told others he might just stick around until he gets it.

I did a column on it. Here's the URL

  2. Gee, it's probably a good thing Jagels didn't give his blessing - if he had, people might think Lisa is just another one of Jagels' flunkies' who would continue his reign of terror on the innocent bystanders of Kern county.

  5. Jeeeez, I just watched "Witch Hunt" on MSNBC and my overwhelming feeling is that Jagels and the screaming judge are and were, total nut jobs. All of those who prosecuted the case seem to have been caught up in a collective histeria to 'burn the witches at all costs'. I'm out in Minnesota, recently retired and now plan a tour of USA. Bakersfield will most certainly NOT be one of my destinations. And now you people want to elect Green, a budy of a Mad Dog? Good luck with that. Personally I'd be somewhat pleased to hear that Jagel got run over by a bus.

  7. As a lifetime resident of Kern County, I was thrilled to hear of the retirement of a man who's idea of being 'tough on crime' was to imprison as many innocent people as possible. Then I find out that his 'apprentice' is the one taking his place.

I've heard that there is currently no one running against her. That she's running completely unopposed. This is a travesty against democracy. This woman is quoted as saying that coerced evidence taken from children that were bullied and terrified by the D.A.'s office is the truth, and that when they grow up and try to fix their mistake, they are liars. It will be a continuation of the reign of terror that INNOCENT citizens of Kern County have lived under for decades.

That there are people who want this to continue terrifies me, and I hope they get what they deserve. But hey, it's worth putting ten innocents in prison of we get one real criminal, right?
